Two space satellites collided with each other on Tuesday February 10th 2009 at about Noon Washington time.

One of the satellites was a Russian satellite supposedly disfunctional and out of operation for about the last ten years the other satellite was a US iridium communications satellite,, both of these satellites were orbiting at an altitude of aproximately 491 miles from the Earth, the US Satellite wieghing about 1,250 LBS and the Russian older version about a ton and on impact with each other burst into many pieces of debris about 200 of the pieces being of fairly imposing larger sizes while another 400 are at around 4 inches to 6 inches accross in size it has been reported and micro sized pieces too small and numerous to count.

Also when asked if the Debris posed any threat to other military space satellites or communication space satellites the answer was "unfortunately yes" they said. Also mentioned though with a much lower probability of being in danger from the debris is the maned space station orbiting at a differant altitude would have to be watched for awhile until certainty that the danger of this possibility of being stricken and damaged from the debris had passed because this debris goes out in all directions from an impact such as this and some of the debris can get into the same altitude range as the maned space station.

So stay tuned, this situation is being monitored closely and being reported by those it concerns as they watch and post updated news of developments that follow after situations like these. There is no mention of the cost of
one of these communication satellites, but one can figure the man hours, the engineering technology and cost of materials to manufacture just one of these satellites is not cheap undertaking.

Looks like more of the global economy up in space dust and debris as if the economy going up in smoke and ashes on the ground wasn't enough.

sheesh! lol. crazy world, eh?

It's the futility of all the billions of dollars that get thrown at space programs, satellites and such that I was trying to point out here, the financial situation around the globe is going down in smoke and ashes, people losing shelter, food wars going on, protests and war without any defined
end in sight, yet those in political power wish to continue trying to control the world through war or the threat of war and financial disasters, using the space program, global climate change, wars, propaganda and lies to keep things going as they plan or want it to go regardless of the rest of mankinds needs. Oh well it does appear to be true that the spirit of wickedness is reserved for the day of evil, and that the just suffer for the unjust.

Though it is true that positive benifits can come out of many of these programs it seems the negative uses are more widely applied because of a few in power who think they are superiour, chosen and better than the rest of mankind. The differance between now and the old world is that the technology and sophisticated weapons, survailance and tresspassing abilities far surpass anything the world has seen to date in all of recorded history, probably better to have it all fall flat on its face now just like Babylon of old did than to continue proping up the very things that lead to the misery we are now witnessing worldwide to start with.
