Hi all

Some folk have stated that they get logged off or battle to log on. This is as a result of the security of this free forum software that interrogates your IP address as part of the security.

Briefly, if your ISP uses dynamic IP allocation you may get bounced between different routing servers during a session and when this happens your IP may change. There is a way around it but you will need to contact your ISP

Go to the control panel and click on Internet Options - double click

Then select the connections tab

At the bottom right select LAN Settings

Here you need to fill in the boxes in the red area (these are dummy values so do not use them)

To get the address of a fixed proxy server, contact your ISP and ask them - they should have an address for you.

Once you have added this info - click OK

This should sort out your problems. I had to do it to access this forum.

Post any questions you may have here.

Another tip is when you are preparing say a long post, before previewing or submitting, in the text area of the edit box, select all by Ctrl + A or right click and "Select All" then copy Ctrl + C or right click and "copy". This way if you are logged out in session, your post is on your clipboard and you do not lose your hard work. This is about the safest work-around even if you use a proxy server setting, make it a habit.

Blessings

Hi all

bumping this up as some folk are saying that they are battling logging on.

If you are using Firefox browser it is similar to what I posted and you will find it under Tools, Options, Advanced.

Click settings, then in the box labeled HTTP: Proxy, enter a series of 4 digits like

123.123.123.255 (You get this from your ISP)

IN the port box, it will be either 80 or 8080.

To explain what this is all about.

This forum notes your IP on log on and as you browse and do stuff here it keeps monitoring your IP address. When you want to post it may ask you to log on even if you already have logged on. This is done to prevent your login being hijacked.

Most ISP's use dynamic allocated IP addresses per session you are logged onto the Internet. Sometimes if you are inactive for awhile, i.e. reading a long post, when you want to respond you get the error messages of errors when clicking submit. This is because the original IP has now changed and is seen as suspect.

To get past this, you need to request a proxy server setting from your Internet service provider. This usually overcomes the problem as a proxy IP is more static per daily/booted up session.

Any of the mods can scan your account to see the actual number of IP's you have registered on this forum. Contact any of us if you need help.

Blessings
