1. In 156 AD Montanus declared himself to be the "spirit of truth" he quickly gathered a following, many followers including a pair of prophetesses who claimed to have visions of ecestatic experiences supposedly from God> They began to spread what they called " the third testament" saying the 'New Jerusalem" was about to descend from heaven into the city of Pepuza in Phrygia
(modern day Turkey) which would be home to all true believers, the word was spread and all were urged to come to Phrygia to await the second coming. The movement divided Christians into two camps, even after the "New Jerusalem" didn't appear whole communities were fragmented and continuous discord resulted.
In 431 AD the counsil of Ephesus condemned chiliasm or belief in the millenium as a dangerous superstition and Montanus was declared a heretic, despite the failure of the prediction the cult survived several centuries until Pope Leo 1 ordered the cult exterminated.

2. In 247 AD Christian prophets declare that the persecutions by the Romans are a sign of the return of Jesus.

3. In AD 300 St. Martin, bishop of Tours: " No doubt the Anti- Christ has already been born, learning and maturing,
when he reaches maturity he will achieve supreme power"

4. In AD 300 Lactanius Firmianius called the Christian cicero from his "Divinae institutiones" that the fall and the ruin of the world will soon take place.

5. In AD 365 Hilary of Poitiers predicted the world would end in 365!

6. In 410 AD When Rome was sacked some proclaimed
"behold from Adam all the years have passed and behold
the 6,000 years are completed and the thousand year reign of Christ begins.

7. In 500 AD it was said that the Vandal King Gensenu's name represented the 666, the number of the beast.

8. Also in 500 AD Hippoltus of Rome supported the often accepted view of the end of the world occuring around the end of the year AD 500.

9. Also for that same year of AD 500 Ireneus predicted the second coming of Jesus during or by the end of the year 500 AD.

10. In 590 AD Bishop Gregory of Tours who died in 594
declared the time of the end to be sometime between 799 AD and 806 AD

Many more of these early predictions later.

Hey FW: Nice list and I look forward to the many additions to come! Yes, there have been and will continue to be “end-timers”. Seems it’s what some of us do when we have so little to do. :mwink:

But, even in my brief stint as a Fundy, I never saw any practical use for End Time Prophecy other than as an excuse to do nothing or not care about important subjects, especially those in government and issues related to conservation. :sigh:

I mean, if God is coming back soon and will solve all the Christian’s problems (the other 80% of the world is going to hell anyway), why should we be “involved with the (evil) World”? It’s all going to burn, right? :mshock:

Oh, and I forgot. End time prophecy is BIG MONEY! Now THAT’s an important issue! :td:

In His Love, John :bh:

PS: I wanted to make myself a bumper sticker that said, “In case of Rapture, can I have your Car, 401K or House”? But my wife thought it was too offensive.

Darn straight laced women, always keeping me out of trouble! :bn:

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

That's a good one V.I.D.

We can put a calender up for 2012 and starting with
January 2012: a picrture of Pat Robertson

February 2012: a picture of John Hagee

March 2012: a picture of Hal Lindsey

April 2012: a picture of the Pope re-comissioning the Roman office of the Holy inquisitions.

All the rest of the months through November 2012 with all preachers having noteriety with their rapture ready followers until December 2012 then on
December 2012 we could put up a picture of Reverend Jim Jones to show that the end of the world is indeed at hand!

Peace,
Fire Walker

The mayan calendar thing...

I mean it had to stop somewhere, didnt it?

It's like a calendar company making a bunch of calendars for future years and they stop at 2025.
Everyone is running around screaming "omg!! The world is going to end in 2025!!!"

Maybe it was just a mayan calendar company.

Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about. :mshock: :tu:

Martin Luther had emphaticly declared that the worlds end would come absolutely no later than the end
of 1600 AD!

Humm, Am wondering what the then Pope thought about that when he heard of it? He probably sent out a witch hunting party of Holy Roman crusaders to hunt Martin Luther down.

Peace,
Fire Walker

What these end of daze folk do not realize is that their doctrines do more damage to the credibility of chistendom than any other doctrine.

Folk are waking up and realizing the KoolAid is bitter/poison.

These fundies were the straw that broke the camel's back for me as looking at all the many differing doctrines coming from the same inerrant bible helped me to realize that it is all a big scam and a farce.

When presented with logical, researched POV, they all still cling to their own beliefs and no one will change their minds. Sad really. :crywipe:

Everytime I hear people say "Jesus is coming back soon" I cringe :mshock:

I used to be an admin for a website that feed into the whole "Judgment coming any day, Jesus is going to rapture us" thing.

Its just so silly. How can people be so brainwashed?

Yep - and I do it for folks like this: (received in a recent PM)

" ...enjoying your posts in the Truth About Hell thread. My son died last October, and I have been tormented by not knowing where he is. You've brought comfort in your posts, and I thank you."

All my years of research and study pay off big time when I get messages like that. I hadn't even posted in that thread for months

Beautiful Byron! I couldnt imagine losing a child and then to be full of fear over his eternal home. What torture life would be with that on ones heart all the time.

In 1284 AD Pope Innocent 111 predicted the world would end in 1284, 666 years after the founding of Islam.

Needless to say the Pope was wrong, a false Prophet,
here it is 2009 and the world is still here!

Don't these Soothsayers ever learn from history or is it that they know they are preaching a lie but it is going to sell to the niave and gullable anyway? Year after year there never seems to be an end to the supply of
Soothsayers and end times predicters, or in even greater supply seems to be the buyers in the market
for books and writings on the end of the world. It is indeed a place for the huxters and religious con artists to profit big time because It just seems the market for this junk thrives on folks who are hungry for the truth yet not able to descern the simple truth from complicated lies (religion) and so chase after every spirit, doctrines of men that blow in the wind, millions of these books sail off the shelves in religious book stores every year, in some cases potential buyers are put on a waiting list until the next shipment of books come in and this has made many religious false prophets and huxters filthy rich..

Peace,
Fire Walker
